Gotta love Thanksgiving. Got Mom talking about her family tree, and she casually mentioned that there was a cousin of her mother’s with PTSD from World War II who tried to kill her when she was six. And that she also had a great uncle who was one of the first American casualties in WWI because he volunteered with a Canadian regiment before the U.S. entered the war. My brother Mark quickly found a photo of his gravestone in Ypres.
(Update) Mark is telling me he died not in the Second Battle of Ypres but the Battle of Cambrai, killed Nov 21, 1917. Here’s the grave.
