A dissonant metal masterpiece from the Quebec-based band Gorguts that hearkens back to the great concept albums of the 70s and 80s. This EP is about Baghdad’s House of Wisdom, a center of science and translation during the Islamic Golden Age, and its destruction by the Mongols in 1258 (which starts around 21:10). “Along with all other libraries in Baghdad, the House of Wisdom was destroyed by the army of Hulagu during the Siege of Baghdad. The books from Baghdad’s libraries were thrown into the Tigris River in such quantities that the river ran black with the ink from the books.”
